MIAMI, FLORIDA (February 22, 2017) – Two workers were injured and one later died after a construction accident on Wednesday morning at a site near Northwest First Avenue and Northwest Fifth Street, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 1:00 a.m. near Northwest First Avenue and Northwest Fifth Street. Two construction workers were inside an elevated bucket boom off a crane, when the bucket was struck by a Metromover rail car, ejecting both of the men. One man fell to the ground and the other was left dangling by a safety harness. Both workers were rushed to the hospital. Sadly, 43-year-old Oscar Cabrera was tragically pronounced dead. The other construction worker, 37-year-old Luis Perez, was treated and released from the hospital.
The accident remains under investigation at his time to determine cause and liability.
