CHIRIACO SUMMIT, CALIFORNIA (June 15, 2017) – Melva Badillo was injured in a double semi truck accident on the 10 Freeway on Thursday morning, according to a California Highway Patrol report. (map)
The accident happened around 7:20 am on the westbound side of the 10 Freeway. Melva Badillo, a 38 year old woman from Lubbock, Texas, was driving an International semi truck westbound, and pulled over to the right shoulder of the freeway near Summit Road. Shortly after, a 67 year old man operating a Freightliner semi truck veered off the road and crashed into the rear of Melva’s semi truck. After the collision, the Freightliner continued on into the open desert for a short distance.
The driver of the Freightliner was tragically killed in the accident. Melva Badillo was injured, and was airlifted from the scene after the accident. A passenger in the Freightliner truck was also airlifted and sustained injuries. The accident remains under open investigation at this time.
