SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (November 12, 2017) – A 29 year old man suffered a double amputation on Sunday morning after being hit by a drunk driver on Highway 50, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 2:30 am. 29 year old Mark Poss pulled over on the eastbound side of Highway 50 near the 15th Street off-ramp, to assist Mario Sanchez and Arlette Lavato move their stalled vehicle off of the freeway. As they attempted to move the vehicle, a drunk driver struck Mark Poss and Mario Sanchez.
Mark Poss was rushed to the hospital, but sustained major injuries to both of his legs. Mark lost his right foot and part of his left leg in the accident. Mario Sanchez also suffered a broken leg in the accident.
The intoxicated driver was identified as 24 year old Jacob Olson. Olson was arrested after the accident on suspicion of driving under the influence. The accident remains under open investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
