WHITTIER, CALIFORNIA (September 26, 2017) – Mario Davila was identified as one of the three people killed in a tragic accident on the 605 Freeway on Tuesday evening, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 10:15 pm on the southbound side of the 605 Freeway near Saragosa Street. A 2016 Chevrolet Camaro traveling at a high rate of speed rear ended a Nissan sedan, causing it to burst into flames. A family of three inside the Nissan sedan was trapped as a result of the accident, and were unable to exit the vehicle.
Sadly, all three people inside the Nissan were pronounced dead as a result of the accident. Mario Davila, his wife Maribel, and their son Oscar were identified as those inside the Nissan.
The driver of the Camaro was identified as 26 year old Edgar Verduzco. Verduzco is an LAPD officer that was off-duty at the time of the crash. Verduzco is suspected of being under the influence at the time of the accident, and was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing, and is being conducted by the LAPD. The family has set up a GoFundMe account for donations.
