“Fatal DUI Crash”
MARINA DEL REY, CALIFORNIA (April 10, 2017) – Ron C. Herens, an off-duty Firefighter from Marietta, Georgia, was killed in DUI collision Monday evening, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. (map)
The collision occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. According to reports, a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed struck the vehicle occupied by Herens and two other firefighters, Doug Blanchard and Dillon Guest. Herens was a passenger in the vehicle. The impact caused Herens to be ejected from the vehicle, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Liliana Preciado. Herens was pronounced dead at the scene.
Blanchard and Guest sustained non life threatening injuries and was transported to UCLA Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the other vehicle was identified as 23-year-old Benjamin Albert Seider. Seider was later arrested on suspicion of DUI. No other information was immediately available at the time of the accident.
