The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 5200 block of Alhambra Avenue, near Endicott Street. 31-year-old Alicia Bello was crossing the street with her two year old son in her arms, when a westbound vehicle struck her. The impact launched Bello into the eastbound lanes, where she was struck by a second vehicle. Just before the initial impact, Bello was able to throw her child to safety and out of the path of the cars.
Alicia Bello was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency medical personnel. Alicia’s child suffered a few lacerations and was hospitalized, but is in good condition. The driver of the second vehicle that struck Alicia, a Nissan Frontier, remained at the scene, however the first vehicle fled the scene and did not stop to render aid. The investigation is ongoing to determine cause and liability at this time.
