LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (February 11, 2017) – A 69-year-old male died in a hit-and-run accident on 49th Street and South Broadway on Saturday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m., when the driver of a vehicle traveling southbound struck and killed the 69-year-old pedestrian who was crossing westbound in the crosswalk on 49th Street, according the LAPD. Rescue personnel transported the victim of a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, but a nearby surveillance camera at a local business captured the collision on video. However, the description of the vehicle or the driver was not available. LAPD is searching for the hit-and-run driver.
“According to experts drivers are responsible the majority of the time for pedestrian accidents. These collisions occur when drivers are careless and fail to yield in a crosswalk or when they turn right on a red light without looking out for a pedestrian,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm, a California pedestrian accident and personal injury law firm.”
