FREMONT, CALIFORNIA (April 18,2018) – A 58-year-old woman was tragically killed when another vehicle rammed into her sport utility vehicle she was traveling, causing it to flip over.(map)
At 9:40 a.m., the driver of a black 1997 Mercedes-Benz, who was identified as a 58-year-old man, was driving in the third lane from the left on the 880 Freeway the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Mercedes side-swept the rear of a green 1996 Ford SUV, driven by the 58-year-old man of Campbell and a woman, identified as Lori Peterson. Initial reports indicate that the Mercedes was traveling faster than the Ford. The impact of the Mercedes caused the SUV to then lose control and overturn.
Peterson was tragically pronounced dead on the scene when medical crews and officials arrived. The male driver of the overturned SUV sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Regional Medical Center.
It is unknown why the Mercedes lost control and hit the SUV. It is unknown whether the Mercedes that crashed into the SUV was traveling within the speed limit of the highway. Lexton Law will continue to update this article as more information is released.
