LONGMEADOW, MASSACHUSETTS (March 14, 2017) – A Longmeadow Department of Public Works employee was killed after being struck by an Amtrak train on Tuesday afternoon, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 4:00 pm. A DPW worker identified as 59 year old Warren Cowles was clearing snow on Birnie Road near the tracks in a company truck when he was struck by an Amtrak train. The crossing has no lights or crossing arms in place at this time.

Warren “Cowlesie” Cowles was tragically pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The accident remains under investigation at this time to determine cause and liability
