The accident happened around 11:40 a.m. at the Francis S. Gabreski Airport. A pilot was practicing a maneuver known as a touch-and-go, where the plane lands and then immediately takes off again. During the maneuver, the Navion F single engine plane crashed into a stand of trees near the end of the airport’s second runway, on the southeastern corner.
Two of the people on board the plane were tragically killed in the accident. The third party was seriously injured and was hospitalized. He has been identified as Richard Rosenthal, also the owner of the plane. It is unknown who was flying the plane at the time of the accident at this time, and the National Transportation Safety Board will oversee the crash.
