LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA (May 21, 2017) – Three men were involved in a fatal collision on Clark Avenue and Eagle Street early Sunday morning, according to the Long Beach Police Department. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. when the driver of a 2000 Toyota Avalon, traveling northbound on Clark Avenue, swayed off the roadway and collided into a utility pole north of Eagle Street. Officers were called to the scene to find two of the passengers inside the vehicle. One of the passengers identified as a 31-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.
One other victim, a 24-year-old male, sustained a broken leg and was transported to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
Th driver of the Avalon, identified as a 24-year-old male, was found a few block away from the collision. The driver was arrested and will be charged with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony hit-and-run, and DUI. An investigation is ongoing.
