LIVE OAK, CALIFORNIA (January 19, 2017) – A head on collision attributed to DUI caused one death and serious injuries on Thursday morning on Highway 99, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened on Highway 99 near Coleman Avenue. A southbound Mitsubishi Galant driven by a male suddenly veered into the northbound lanes and into the path of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by a female. The two vehicles collided head on.
Jon Nakaishi, the driver of the Galant, was tragically declared dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as Nyemi Mendoza. Nyemi Mendoza sustained serious injuries and was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital. Initial reports indicate Jon Nakaishi may have been under the influence of alcohol, and the investigation is ongoing to determine cause and liability.
