“Pedestrian vs. Vehicle Accident”
LANCASTER, CALIFORNIA (MAY 24, 2017) – 15-year-old Adrian Smith was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday evening, according to the Lancaster Sheriff’s Department. (map)
The collision happened at 10 p.m. when a motorist tried to avoid two vehicles that were stopped in order to allow Smith and his family to cross Avenue L. The vehicle swerved out in front of him, causing his death, according to Lt. Dan Nagelmann of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
Smith was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to a coroner’s report. Smith was near a fence when he was struck. The driver of the vehicle that struck him sustained injuries as well and the vehicle rolled several times as a result. The driver was a male in his 30’s and also had to be treated at a nearby hospital. An investigation is ongoing to determine if drugs and or alcohol were factors in the collisioin.
