KIRKWOOD, CALIFORNIA (February 14, 2017) – A multi car accident left at least eight people injured on State Route 88, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 1:00 pm on the westbound side of State Route 88 near Kirkwood Inn. A blue Toyota driven by 23 year old Maria Gonzalez carrying five passengers, veered off the road and into a snow embankment. A green Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 58 year old Karen Carver then collided with Gonzalez’s Toyota.
A black Chevrolet driven by 19 year old Christian Nelson attempted to avoid the collision, but ended up in the snowbank on the opposite side of the road. Subsequently, an Oldsmobile driven by 70 year old John Steffens approached the crash scene and steered his car to the right to try to avoid the accident, crashing into Nelson’s Chevrolet.
Eight people were injured in the accident, seven were taken by ambulance to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to moderate, and one four year old child was flown to a nearby trauma center with major injuries. The accident remains under investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
