Around 3:30 pm, Kate Brown and three of her children were walking home when they came across a Norfolk Southern freight train that was stopped on the tracks. Needing to get to the other side of the train, two of Kate’s older children climbed under the train and reached the other side. Next was 28 year old Kate, holding her 1 year old son. As Kate attempted to climb under the train, it began to move, pinning Kate’s leg and her son’s arm.
The two remained pinned for a short time before rescuers arrived. Both were rushed to a hospital, but Kate was confirmed to have lost her leg, and her son lost his arm. Their current condition is unknown at this time as a result of the accident. The incident remains under active investigation at this time.
“Almost one death or injury per day occurs on the rail system in the United States. Many of these tragic deaths are avoidable, the rail system is antiquated and needs a complete overhaul to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and train passengers,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law.
