KAPOLEI, OAHU (January 1, 2017) – At least one person was killed and another was left with critical injuries after an illegal fireworks accident on New Year’s Day, according to local news sources. (map)
The accident happened just after midnight on New Year’s Day at 91-229 Komohana Street. Two people were lighting illegal fireworks at a large gathering when something when wrong and an explosion happened.
The 38 year old woman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene and the 36 year old man was hospitalized with critical injuries. An accident investigation has been opened and is ongoing.
