FOUNTAIN HILLS, ARIZONA (July 27, 2017) – 14-year-old Kaillie Plante was a victim of a semi-truck collision on State Route 87 near Shea Boulevard Tuesday evening, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. (map)
The incident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. A report from the Arizona Department of Public Safety said the driver of a semi-truck, later identified as John Girssom, 51, was traveling southbound on State route 87 while transporting lumber. Girssom failed to stop at a red light and struck another vehicle traveling northbound on State Route 87 from Shea Boulevard. The impact caused the semi to go into the center divider and collide into another vehicle. Both vehicles struck two more vehicles. The driver of the semi lost control and rolled on its side losing the load of lumber and hitting another vehicle, according to Arizona DPS.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene to find a 15-year-old boy, later identified as Nicolas Minard, dead at the scene. Plante suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital where she later succumbed to those injuries.
The other motorist involved in the collision were 34-year-old Danielle Plante and 60-year-old Jeannie Londin sustained injuries. The severity of their injuries were not available. 54-year-old Sheila Mei and 70-year-old Joy Ford were involved in the collision but did not appear to sustain any injuries from the collision..
