The accident happened around 7:30 am on the southbound side of State Route 99, near Howsley Road. A 2001 Chevrolet Suburban carrying six people was traveling south on the Highway when a tire blew. The rim dug into the road and flipped the car four times, landing just off the freeway.
65 year old Judith Winertoh, a front seat passenger, was trapped in the car. After being extricated, she was rushed to a local hospital where she was sadly pronounced dead. 42 year old Shane M. Holbert-Ely, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained moderate injuries, and 42 year old April L. Holbert-Ely, 11 year old Haven Holbert-Ely, and 9 year old Hope Holbert-Ely were all transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the SUV, Barry D. Wineroth, and 6 year old Harmony Holbert-Ely were both uninjured in the accident. The accident remains under investigation at this time, and a member of the family said that the seven people were on their way to Mexico for a mission trip.
