The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the 5 Freeway, near Highway 140. 36-year-old Jose Luiz Zambrando was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes for an unknown reason. 47-year-old Jorge Mendoza was driving northbound on the northbound side, and when he saw Zambrando he attempted to swerve. Unfortunately, Zambrando attempted to swerve as well and the two vehicles collided head on into each other.
Jose Luis Zambrando was tragically killed in the accident, and Jorge Mendoza suffered injuries as well. The accident remains under investigation at this time, however initial reports indicate alcohol was a factor in the collision.
