“Investigation Ongoing”

MIAMISBURG, OHIO (September 22, 2017) – A 16 year old high school student was struck by a train and killed on Friday night, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 7:40 pm between East Linden Avenue and East Central Avenue. 16 year old Jose Fernandez, a student at Centerville high school, was reportedly struck by a Norfolk and Southern train.

Jose Fernandez was tragically pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. In 2016 Ohio was ranked number 9 in the nation for highest number of pedestrian rail casualties, with a total of 16 fatal accidents for the year. Friday’s terrible accident remains under active investigation at this time.

“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends affected by this tragic accident,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved. Almost one death or injury per day occurs on the rail system in the United States. Many of these tragic deaths are avoidable, the rail system is antiquated and needs a complete overhaul to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and train passengers.”
