Jonathan Gonzalez, 18, Killed in Solo Vehicle Collision on Ortega Highway

“Solo Car Accident”

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (August 19, 2017) – 18-year-old Jonathan Gonzalez was involved in a fatal solo vehicle collision on Ortega Highway near the Riverside/Orange county line early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. (map)

The accident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. when a vehilce traveling westbound on Ortega Highway 74 reached the curve near the Riverside/Orange county line. The car, driven by 18-year-old Eric Yarel Breniz, veered off the road, hit a guardrail and went airborne over the embankment hitting a tree, according to a CHP statement. The vehicle was traveling faster than the posted speed limit of 30 mph.

Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. Breniz sustained major injuries and was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment.
