NORA SPRINGS, IOWA (December 1, 2017) – Two people were killed and another was critically injured after a train struck a car in Floyd County, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened just before noon in Floyd County. A red 2016 Chevrolet Equinox was crossing the train tracks on Zinnia Avenue when it was struck by a westbound Canadian Pacific train. The impact caused the SUV to roll over onto its roof after the accident.
66 year old James Blazier was killed, as was 66 year old Dixie Blazer. Glenda Mundis was airlifted from the scene in unknown condition. The accident remains under open investigation, but initial reports have confirmed that the crossing does not have gate arms equipped. Another crossing less than a mile away does have gate arms.
