“Fatal Fiery Collision”
IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (May 8, 2017) – Three vehicles were involved in a collision on the northbound I-5 freeway near the Jamboree Road off-ramp, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. when the driver of a 1994 Dodge van, driving at a high rate of speed, failed to yield and struck the vehicle ahead causing a chain reaction.
The Orange County fire Department was called to the scene to find three vehicles in the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway on fire, according to Batillion Chief Orange County Fire Department Steve Pardi. The first vehicle that was hit, caught on fire and spread to the Dodge. The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
A burn victim as well as another victim of the collision was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Dodge was rescued from the burning van.
