INDIO, CALIFORNIA (December , 2016) – Fourteen people were injured in a four car collision caused by a drunk driver on Monroe Street on Monday, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 6:45 pm, at the intersection of Monroe Street an Avenue 48. Juan Gomez, a 48 year old man from Indio, was traveling south on Monroe Street at a high rate of speed when he sideswiped a Toyota Camry heading southbound as well. Gomez then careened into the back of a nearby Nissan SUV, pushing the Nissan SUV into a Honda SUV.
Four people were rushed to a hospital in critical condition, and either others were hospitalized with major injuries. Two were treated at the scene and released. Gomez was arrested for driving under the influence, and the investigation is ongoing.
“It’s unfortunate that motorists under the influence disregard the negative effects that may ensue from driving under the influence. Drunk drivers continue to endanger the safety of all other drivers,” said a California car accident and personal injury attorney.
