IBERIA PARISH: Semi Truck Rear-ended by SUV Accident on Highway 90 near Genest Road at Railroad Crossing

“Accident Prone Intersection”

IBERIA PARISH, LOUISIANA (March 3, 2017) – An SUV rear ended a big rig at the railroad crossing on Highway 90 on Friday morning, according to a local news source. (map)

A semi-truck reportedly stopped at the railroad crossing tracks, and was rear ended by an SUV. The parties in the SUV reported minor to moderate injuries and their condition is unknown.

This is the second accident at the intersection lately. In January, one person was killed when a big rig drove into the back of another semi-truck. The Department of Transportation and Development was in the process of installing a cross bar at the time of Friday’s accident, but they are now considering removing the railroad crossing altogether. At this time, the crossing has warning lights, but no gates.

“Almost one death or injury per day occurs on the rail system in the United States. Many of these tragic deaths are avoidable, the rail system is antiquated and needs a complete overhaul to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and train passengers,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm.
