PANA, ILLINOIS (June 14, 2017) – 79 year old Herbert Castle was tragically identified as one of the victims killed in a collision on Wednesday evening on Christian County Road, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 14th. A car carrying five senior citizens was traveling south across the train tracks on 1800 N Christian County Road near Route 16, when it was abruptly struck by a train that was heading southwest.
Three of the five people on board were pronounced dead at the scene, and the other two died shortly after at an area hospital. Herbert Castle, the driver of the car, was sadly identified as one of those killed in the accident. The other four were identified as Mary Castle 89, Nell Castle, 77, John Castle, 89, and Mary Pugsley, 87. The accident remains under open investigation.
