RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA (July 8, 2017) – 41-year-old Hector Montes De Oca was involved in a fatal vehicle collision on the eastbound 91 Freeway near Monroe Street early Saturday morning, according to police authorities. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. Montes De Oca was driving a 1998 Honda, traveling eastbound on the 91 Freeway west of Monroe Street, when the vehicle crashed in the carpool lane which caused it to become inoperable, according to CHP.
Shortly after, 25-year-old Michael Estebane, driving a 2015 Dodge, struck the Honda that Montes De Oca occupied. Montes De Oca died at the scene.
Estebane and his 22-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries. Estebane was later arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI. Estebane was later released on bail.
An investigation is ongoing.
