NEW YORK: 34 Injured in Subway Derailment near Harlem Station

“Investigation Ongoing”

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (June 27, 2017) – 34 people were injured after an improperly secured piece of replacement rail caused a subway derailment on the way into Harlem station on Tuesday, according to a local news source. (map)

The A train reportedly began shaking and jerking violently as it approached a station in Harlem around 9:45 am on Tuesday. The train derailed as a result of a piece of replacement rail that had not been properly bolted down in between the tracks. The subway miraculously stayed upright during the derailment.

Passengers were stuck on the subway for hours before being escorted through the tunnels with flashlights and cellphone lights. As of Wednesday morning, two rail workers have been suspended as the investigation continues into who was responsible for the piece of equipment that was left unsecured. 34 people reportedly sustained injuries in the accident, but none were considered life threatening.

“Any injured party involved in an accident will have a bodily injury claim against the negligent party who caused the accident,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm, a car accident and personal injury law firm.
