GREENSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA (December 22, 2016) – A man was hit by a freight train and killed on Thursday evening on the tracks near Maple Avenue and Main Street, according to local news sources. (map)

The accident happened around 5:30 pm on the tracks between the Main Street and Maple Avenue crossings. A man was found on the tracks after having been struck by a Norfolk Southern Corp. train.

The pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead by a responding coroner. The investigation is ongoing to determine cause and liability.
