A 2004 Chevrolet SUV driven by a 19 year old man was weaving in and out of traffic at a high speed, with three other passengers inside his vehicle. As they careened down Hawthorne Boulevard approaching Del Amo, they sideswiped a car, crossed the center median, and entered oncoming traffic. The SUV subsequently struck two other vehicles and rolled over, ejecting the 20 year old man in the front seat.
George Spencer Jackson, the front seat passenger in the SUV, was tragically killed as a result of the accident. Another passenger was trapped inside the vehicle and was hospitalized after being extricated by emergency medical personnel. The driver of the SUV, identified as 19 year old Monte Lashawn Collins, and another passenger identified as 19 year old Karin Taylor Dixson, fled the scene. Both were apprehended a short time later.
The accident remains under open investigation at this time to determine cause and liability. Collins is being held on $200,000 bail, and Dixson is being held on $25,000. Initial investigations indicate Collins may have not had a valid driver’s license at the time of the accident.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends affected by this tragic accident,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved.”
