The accident happened at the intersection of Kimberly Avenue and South Acacia Avenue just after 4 p.m. A 2001 Hyundai Elantra was heading west on Kimberly Avenue when a 2004 Nissan Altima collided with the passenger side of the Hyundai in the intersection. The two vehicles then spun and struck a Toyota Tundra. 42-year-old Maria Bracamonte and her 7-year-old daughter Perla Olivaros were both rear seat passengers in the Hyundai and were rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center. Tragically, Perla Olivaros succumbed to her injuries a few hours later and Maria Bracamonte sadly died the morning of February 15th.
The driver of the Hyundai and one other passenger inside the car were treated for minor to moderate injuries, and nobody inside the Nissan or the Toyota reported any injuries. The investigation is still ongoing.
