“Fatal SUV and Big-Rig Collision”
MENDOTA, CALIFORNIA (September 5, 2017) – A big-rig and SUV were involved in a fatal fiery collision on Highway 33 and Manning Avenue south of Mendota Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway patrol. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. Witnesses at the scene stated a 2009 Mercedes SUV traveling eastbound on Manning Avenue failed to stop at a stop sign. A big-rig traveling northbound on Highway 33, did not have enough time to adjust and collided into the SUV, according to CHP Sgt. Matt Zulim.
The SUV and big-rig both overturned. The big-rig landed onto the SUV causing the SUV to be engulfed in flames.
The driver of the SUV, identified as a 63-year-old male along with four other passengers of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the big-rig, identified as 58-year-old Wayne Fletcher, was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
An investigation is ongoing.
