FREEMAN, SOUTH DAKOTA (December 13, 2016) –A semi truck crashed into a vehicle owned by the State of South Dakota, injuring two people on Highway 81 on Tuesday, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 11:00 am. A 2013 Peterbilt Semi was stopped in the left turn lane of 278th street, waiting to turn onto U.S. Highway 81. The semi truck turned, colliding with a 2015 Chevrolet Impala owned by the State of South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
The 26 year old male driver of the Impala and his 27 year old passenger both suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized. The driver of the semi truck, identified as a 45 year old man, was not injured. The investigation is ongoing, but the driver of the semi was cited for failing to yield.
