FRANKLIN COUNTY, ARKANSAS (February 22, 2017) – Two people were killed when their semi truck crashed off a bridge off Interstate 40 near Lone Elm Road, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened on Interstate 40, on the bridge over Lone Elm Road. A husband and wife team had picked up a load of ammunition, including concussion and smoke grenades, and were on their way to Oklahoma. On the bridge over Lone Elm Road, a car reportedly cut off the semi and caused it to swerve. A tire then blew out and the semi-truck careened off the bridge and landed on the road before it exploded into flames. The husband and wife inside the semi were both tragically killed as a result of the accident.
Witnesses at the scene say the car that cut off the semi stopped briefly at the scene, and then sped off before anyone could get a license plate number. Authorities are on the lookout at this time for the suspect driver; the investigation is ongoing.
