BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA (July 16, 2017) – 25-year-old Francisco Javier De La Cruz was involved in a fatal crash on Highway 119 near Stine Rd Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. when the driver of a Nissan Altima, traveling eastbound on Highway 119 swerving in and out of lanes on Highway 119, collided head-on with a Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by De La Cruz. De La Cruz was trapped inside of the pickup. Firefighters freed De La Cruz from the pickup. De La Cruz was airlifted to Kern Medical where he later succumbed o his injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle and his passenger were also freed from their vehicle by rescue crews. The driver and passenger suffered moderate to major injuries and were transported to local hospitals or treatment.
An investigation is ongoing to determine if drugs and alcohol were factors in the deadly collision.
