“Overturned Big-Rig Collision”
FOUNTAIN HILLS, ARIZONA (July 25, 2017) – Two young teenagers were involved in a fatal collision on State Route 87 near Shea Boulevard Tuesday evening, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. (map)
A semi travelling southbound on State Route 87 was hauling lumber. The semi failed to stop a red light and collided with another vehicle that was travelling northbound on State Route 87 from Shea Boulevard causing the semi to go into the median and hit another vehicle in front of it. Both vehicles collided into two more vehicles. The semi overturned losing the lumber and hitting another vehicle, according to DPS.
Rescue crews arrived at the scene. A 15-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old girl was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Four other victims of the collision, a pediatric trauma patient, two adults and one other person were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries, according to Rural/Fire Metro spokesman Shawn Gilleland said.
One person refused medical attention. The identities of the victims were not yet released. State Route 87 was reopened approximately after 4:00 a.m.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort the children’s family and friends as they cope with such an incredible loss,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm. “The thoughts and prayers of our staff are with them, as well as the people who were injured, as they try to piece together what happened.”
