FONTANA, CALIFORNIA (August 4, 2017) – Several people were involved in a multi-vehicle collision on the 10 Freeway near Cherry Avenue, Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. A woman motorist pulled over the Honda due to an overheated engine. A driver in a dark-colored pickup pulled in front of the inoperable vehicle in order to assist the stranded motorist. The other occupants in the Honda were the motorist’s mother and her two children.
The mother, grandmother, and the driver of the pickup were standing in front of the stalled vehicle when the driver of a white Nissan truck struck the Honda and the pick up. The impact caused the back seat of the Honda to be smashed into the front seat. The collision also sent the pickup across the other side of the freeway, according to CHP Officer Jesus Garcia.
The grandmother, the driver of the pickup and the two children were killed in the collision.
The driver of the Honda sustained major injuries and was transported to to a local hospital.
The driver of the Nissan truck was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. Officers remained at the hospital with the driver of the Nissan as they believed he was under the influence of alcohol. Police found open cans of beer
