“Bicycle vs. Vehicle Fatality”
FALLBROOK, CALIFORNIA (MAY 30, 2017) – 59-year-old Paul Burke was involved in a deadly bicycle collision on Old Highway 395 near Pala Mesa Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol. (map)
The crash occurred approximately after 3:00 p.m. Witnesses saw a 2002 Ford Explorer, traveling northbound on old Highway 395 veer off the road and collide with Burke who was riding his bike, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt.
Burke was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Explorer, later identified as 19-year-old Sulem Areli Garcia, remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Garcia was later arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence.
