ESCONDIDO, CALIFORNIA (May 11, 2017) – Two people were killed and two more were injured after a short police pursuit on Thursday morning, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened just after midnight on Thursday morning. An Escondido police officer saw a silver PT Cruiser roll through a stoplight at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Midway Drive. He attempted to pull over the driver, but she took off at a high rate of speed. The officer began a pursuit, but the PT Cruiser was reportedly traveling at speeds of up to 90mph. A short while later, the officer came across an accident scene involving the PT cruiser.
The PT Cruiser had reportedly struck a parked Chevrolet S10 pickup truck before launching into a large tree and overturning, landing on its roof on the sidewalk. The tree fell onto several parked cars after the accident, causing major damages.
An 18 year old passenger in the car was thrown from it and tragically killed. The driver, a 20 year old female, was also killed. Two other passengers, a male and a female, both sustained major injuries and were hospitalized. The accident remains under open investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
