DANA POINT, CALIFORNIA (April 16, 2018) – The Metrolink 609 train was carrying about 64 passengers between San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano when it struck two people; one was identified as Ernest Gibson, 71-years old and an unidentified woman.(map)
At 4 p.m., Ernest Gibson of Lake Elsinore was struck and killed by the Metrolink 609 train near the intersection of Camino Capistrano and Pacific Coast Highway. The location where the incident occurred in an area that was closed off to pedestrians. It is unknown at the time why these two pedestrians were in the area at the time of the incident. It is also unclear whether the closed off section was labeled with signs of warning.
Only two hours later, a woman fell onto the track at the Sylmar Metrolink station and was killed as well. There were two people killed in separate Southern California Metrolink crashes on Monday. It is unclear at the time whether these tragic incidents were merely coincidences or if functional factors played a role.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends affected by this tragic accident,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved.”
