The accident happened around 12:45 am on the westbound 101 Freeway near Haskell Avenue. A motorcycle carrying two people was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and lane splitting when it crashed into the back of a Lexus, ejecting both riders. The motorcycle was then struck by another car, causing the car to catch on fire.
The female passenger was struck by several cars and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene as a result of her injuries. The male driver of the motorcycle was rushed to Northridge Hospital Medical Center with moderate injuries, and authorities have said once he is released from the hospital, he will be arrested on suspicion of DUI. The accident remains under investigation to determine cause and liability at this time.
