ENCINITAS, CALIFORNIA (March 15, 2017) – A man was hit by a train and killed on Wednesday afternoon near Leucadia Boulevard, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 4:45 pm at Leucadia Boulevard and North Vulcan Avenue. A pedestrian identified only as a male stepped onto the tracks for an unknown reason when he was struck by an Amtrak train traveling at around 90 MPH. The train attempted to stop but was unable to do so in time.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. The accident remains under investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
