“Pedestrian vs. Vehicle Collision”
WAYNE, NEW JERSEY (August 9, 2017) – 62-year-old Ryszard Mieliczek was involved in collision with a van on Valley Road from Nellis Drive Wednesday afternoon, according to the Wayne Police Department. (map)
The accident occurred prior to 11:00 a.m. Mieliczek was crossing Valley Road to Runnymede Drive from Nellis Avenue when the driver of a Ford Econoline van, driven by Hall of Fame Cross Country coach John Pontes, struck Mieliczek.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and transported Mieliczek to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson where he is listed in critical condition.
Pontes remained a the scene an cooperated with police officials. Pontes was given a summons for failure to stop for pedestrian.
An investigation is ongoing.
