Tragic Collision Under Investigation
DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA (December 10, 2016) – A 4-month-old boy was killed and 3 adults were injured in a tragic car crash at an intersection in Downey on Saturday morning, reported the South Gate Patch.
The accident was reported at 1:54 a.m. at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Brookshire Avenue (map)
The Downey Police Department has identified the young victim as 4-month-old Xavier Leon of Bell Gardens.
A preliminary investigation revealed a black Mercedes-Benz SUV, driven by a 23-year-old man, was heading southbound on Brookshire Avenue when it was struck by a red Chevrolet Silverado. A 34-year-old man was behind the wheel of the pickup, which was traveling eastbound on Firestone Boulevard.
The SUV’s rear-seated passengers, 4-month-old Xavier Leon and the 21-year- old woman, were rushed to an area hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead.
The 21-year-old woman’s injuries were serious but considered non-life threatening.
Both drivers suffered minor injuries. It was not immediately known if either driver was cited or arrested.
