Fatal Ohio State Fair Ride Accident Caused by Excessive Corrosion

“Investigation Ongoing”

COLUMBUS, OHIO (August 8, 2017) – Initial reports have confirmed that excessive corrosion is the reason behind July 26th tragic accident at the Ohio State Fair that killed one and injured others, according to local news sources. (map)

The accident happened at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus in late July. A ride called the “Fire Ball” malfunctioned, throwing one of the chair arms off. Several people were thrown from the chair, and several were locked in as it struck the ground. Others were struck by debris that flew from the ride, and initial reports indicate some people may have been thrown as far as 40 feet.

An 18 year old male, identified as Tyler Jarrell, was tragically killed. Others were in critical condition, and a total of seven people were injured. The investigation into the ride has shown that while it passed visual inspections, corrosion on the interior of the gondola’s support beam caused the catastrophic failure.

A thorough investigation is still ongoing at this time, and the attorney for Tyler Jarrell’s family says they are conducting their own investigation, however they have not yet filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends affected by this tragic accident,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved.”
