COALINGA, CALIFORNIA (August 2, 2017) – At least one person was reportedly killed in an accident on Interstate 5 on Wednesday, according to a California Highway Patrol report. (map)
The accident happened around 4:15 am on the northbound side of the 5 Freeway near Derrick Avenue. A male was seen attempting to flag down motorists while bloody an injured, and was later found laying on the right hand shoulder. A vehicle was spotted at the scene about 50 feet down a ravine, and it is believed there was at least one other person inside the vehicle.
The condition of all those involved in the accident is unknown, however the CHP classified the accident as a fatality. The incident remains under investigation at this time to determine cause and liability, and whether or not a second vehicle was involved.
