CRESCENT CITY, CALIFORNIA (February 16, 2017) – A CHP officer suffered major injuries after being broadsided by a big rig on Highway 101 on Thursday, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 2:58 pm on Highway 101 near Ehlers Avenue. A big rig reportedly crossed over the center line and broadsided CHP Officer Jose Martinez, who was inside his patrol vehicle.

The accident left Officer Martinez trapped inside his car, and he had to be extricated by responding emergency personnel. Officer Martinez was rushed to a hospital after the accident, and his injuries were described as major. The semi-truck driver did not sustain any injuries in the accident. The accident remains under active investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
