COMMERCE: Three Killed in Wrong Way Collision on 5 Freeway near Slauson Avenue

COMMERCE, CALIFORNIA (March 12, 2017) – Three people were killed on Sunday morning in a wrong way accident on the 5 Freeway, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 5:20 am on the northbound side of the 5 Freeway, near Slauson Avenue. A Mini Cooper was reportedly traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway when he collided head on with a white utility van carrying a male and a female. Both vehicles overturned from the accident.

The female driver of the van, Quanlinh Phillips, and her male passenger were both tragically pronounced dead at the scene after being extricated from their vehicle by responding medical personnel. The driver of the Mini Cooper, identified as John Perez, was also pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
