AGUANGA, CALIFORNIA (February 23, 2017) – Two cars were involved in a DUI crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 79 near Highway 371, according to the California Highway Patrol. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m., when Clara Collins, the driver of a 2011 Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound on Highway 79, was struck by the Victoria Jackson, driver of a 1997 Volkswagon Jetta. Jackson lost control of the her vehicle and veered into the path of Collins while traveling westbound on Highway 79. The Corolla collided into the left rear of Jetta causing both vehicles to become entangled, according to CHP Officer Mike Lassing.
The Riverside County Fire Department were dispatched to the scene in order to extricate Collins and Jackson from their vehicles. Collins was airlifted to Inland Valley medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries she sustained in the collision. Jackson sustained a hand injury and was treated at a local hospital. Jackson was later booked on suspicion of DUI resulting in injuries as well as possessing a controlled substance at Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.
