SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (February 22, 2017) – A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was killed in a tragic accident on Wednesday during a pursuit of a suspect on Fruitridge Road, according to a local news source. (map)

31-year-old Lucas Chellew, an 8 year veteran of the California Highway Patrol, was pursuing a suspect on a motorcycle when a vehicle pulled out in front of him. Trying to avoid the car, Officer Chellew veered out of the way and crashed into a pole. Officer Chellew was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The original suspect Chellew had been pursuing was located and arrested, and has been identified as 26-year-old Alberto Quiroz. The investigation into this accident is ongoing at this time.
